A SURPRISING CHILDLIKE GODWINK
“Forty years ago, while pastoring in California, I purchased a PAINTING at a STREET FAIR. It pictured a young CHILD attempting to open HUGE church DOOR.
Speaking to me of my need for CHILDLIKE FAITH, that painting has hung OVER my DESK in every church I’ve served, all across the country.
For MY three DAUGHTERS the small figure standing at the huge church door has represented childlike faith for them, as well.
I often wondered if the artist was inspired by an actual church somewhere… but never tried to ask.
A month ago, I traveled to Evanston for my oldest DAUGHTER’S WEDDING. The venue was across the street from an elegant castle-like church.
As I walked to my car, I was STUNNED. I looked up and there it was… “THE VERY DOOR!”
I had finally found the setting for my most treasured painting… right where my LITTLE GIRL became a BRIDE.
Time has passed too quickly. Wasn’t it just yesterday my five-year-old was opening the church door to visit me in my office?
Yet, I take delight in ACKNOWLEDGING that GOD used my little girls’ wedding… a half a continent away… for this amazing Godwink of reassurance to unfold.”
