GODWINKS and TREASURED MEMORIES
Driving to her first year of college, Liz Pennycook WORRIED about leaving her CHILDHOOD DOG, Ginger, behind.
GINGER, a 14-year-old Golden Retriever/Irish Setter, had been her best friend since she was six.
LIZ remembered the day she first saw Ginger’s ginger-colored coat and immediately NAMED her.
The sweet dog patiently let Liz dress her up in girly outfits and floppy hats, INSPIRING Liz to take up PHOTOGRAPHY.
One autumn day Liz noticed how the golden LEAVES MATCHED the color of Ginger’s soft COAT. She positioned her pup and snapped a photo.
A CALENDAR COMPANY advertised it was looking for dog models. Liz dropped Ginger’s photo in the mail knowing it was a long shot. And, she NEVER HEARD back.
Now, settled in college, Liz received an URGENT call—Ginger’s health was FAILING.
She DROVE ALL NIGHT, tears streaming, and wrapped her lifelong companion in a blanket on the living room floor.
Ginger took her last breath as LIZ HELD HER close.
Amid her grief, Liz didn’t hear the DOORBELL.
Her mom entered with a PACKAGE—a yellow-tabbed page.
Liz opened it … astonished to see HER BEAUTIFUL PICTURE of Ginger, exactly how she wanted to remember her … surrounded by golden leaves, under the designation, “Mutt of the Month.”
She was selected as MISS NOVEMBER!
