NEARLY CHRISTMAS, HARRIED MOM... THEN, A HEARTFELT GODWINK.
Candy Chand was feeling OVERWHELMED… stuck in traffic, with so many things left to do.
At the moment, she was rushing to her son’s KINDERGARTEN performance… “The Winter Pageant.”
Don’t get me going, she thought…starting to again fret that “Christmas” was being taken out of everything from the events at school to store signage at the mall.
Candy arrived just as the performance was about to begin. Whew…now she could relax.
Awww… how cute can kindergartners be…she thought, watching the teachers herd a flock of adorable 5 year old’s dressed in red and white scarves and fuzzy mittens.
She let out an audible sigh when she realized that in THIS school, children were about to sing a SONG with the name CHRISTMAS in it! It was called “CHRISTMAS LOVE”.
Thank God, she thought!
But what took place in the next few moments became a story that CHANGED Candy Chand’s writing CAREER. She would write the story, witness it zoom around globe on the internet, and later, become the subject of her own book called Christmas Love.
In her own words, Candy describes the Godwink:
“The performance was going smoothly, until we noticed a small quiet girl in the front row holding the letter “M” upside down, totally unaware that her letter “M” appeared as a “W.”
The audience of first through sixth graders snickered at the little one’s mistake… the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.
In that instant we all understood the reason we were there. When the last letter was held high, INSTEAD of ‘CHRISTMAS LOVE’…the message read loud and clear: ‘CHRIST WAS LOVE’.
Candy wrote… “and, I believe …He still is”.
