SOMEONE'S TALKING BEHIND YOUR BACK (To God)
One Sunday our preacher told a story about the time he asked everyone in his church to select someone for whom they would SECRETLY PRAY.
“What a GREAT CONCEPT,” I thought … looking around the church.
My eyes fell upon a cute elderly couple that everyone was fond of: BELLE AND BRUCE REYNOLDS.
The two of them, barely five feet tall; Belle was known for the best ginger cookies ever, and Bruce's enthusiastic personality was admired.
I decided to pray for them all week WITHOUT their KNOWING about it.
The following week I arrived at church LATE. Slipping into the pew, I noted that the ushers were completing the passing-of-baskets which struck me as out of the ordinary at the start of the service. But shrugged off the thought.
Later, at coffee hour, one of those USHERS came up to me carrying a BASKET. Inside were THREE LITTLE SCRAPS of folded paper.
“SQuire, you DIDN’T get your ‘SECRET PRAYER PARTNER.”
I looked at him, puzzled.
He responded: “We decided to pick up on the PASTOR’S comment last week, putting names of the entire congregation into a basket, and everyone picks SOMEONE TO SECRETLY PRAY FOR this coming week.”
I WONDERED... should I tell him that I’d ALREADY been praying for a lovely church couple?
But, he patiently continued extending the BASKET… smiling.
I reached down and SELECTED one of the three slips of paper.
My mouth must have DROPPED.
Out of 600 church members, I selected: “BELLE AND BRUCE REYNOLDS!”

Aren’t these the times in life when YOU just glance heavenward and say, “Okay, Lord, the joke’s on me?”
Let’s all try it...each SECRETLY PRAY for someone all week long. And, remember… it works both ways… someone may be praying for you... BEHIND your BACK, right now!
