YOU’RE A GODWINK LINK

YOU’RE A GODWINK LINK

Sometimes God uses each of us as Godwink Links—unwitting messengers of a godwink to someone else. For what purpose? Sometimes it is just to be a light of reassurance, to comfort them, and to let them know that they are not alone.

Roma Downey, the wonderful actress who played the lead angel on the television series, Touched By An Angel, experienced that situation; God divinely aligned her to be at exactly the right place, at the right time, to bring light to a young woman in desperate circumstances.

The young woman approached Roma with a look of timid determination.

It was common for people to recognize Roma. After all, her television series took her into 20 million homes every week.

“I want you to know that you helped save my life,” said the young woman, her voice shaking slightly.

            “How was that?” asked Roma.

The woman raised her wrists for Roma to see—her pale skin reddened around fresh scars.

“I … was taking my own life,” she said, hesitantly. “I felt abandoned … by my family and by God. I was bleeding, my back against the bathroom wall, sliding down, collapsing on the floor, waiting to die. I shouted, ‘Even now there is no word from you, God, because you are not there!’”

Her eyes widened as she looked directly at Roma.

“Then I heard you speak. You said: ‘You are not alone. You have never been alone. Don’t you know that God loves you?’”

Stark silence hung in the air as the two women looked deeply into each other’s eyes. The young woman swallowed, to hold back tears.

In a surreal millisecond Roma comprehended the godwink that must have occurred—how God was divinely aligning her to be a light of salvation for this poor woman, lost in despair.

From a television set in another room the woman must have heard the phrase written into every show that the production crew had come to call “the angel revelation scene;” the moment when the actor who played an angel revealed themselves to someone in trouble.

“It was you,” continued the young woman, “until that moment I didn’t even know the TV was on. In answer to my cry for God to show Himself to me, I heard your voice!”

Arrested in astonishment, wondering what unbelievable odds must have been required for such a godwink to unfold—considering the thousands and thousands of hours of programming on television—Roma refocused on the young woman.

“I wrapped my wrists in a towel and called for an ambulance,” she said with a sigh, adding, “That is how you helped save my life.”

Roma looked at her with compassion and managed a whispered response.

“And THAT is evidence that angels are the messengers of an ever-present God.”

Both choking back tears, Roma reached out to the young woman, and held her—for a long time.

A peace came over the two of them as an awareness crept into their minds that God’s Love Light was shining upon them, ever so tenderly, as invisible threads of Divine Alignment were connecting them on God’s Positioning System. And Roma’s voice, coming through a TV set at the most auspicious moment to save a life,  became a Godwink Link … an unwitting messenger of hope and encouragement.

God calls us to be His hands and feet and heart here on earth: “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

Just maybe … YOU’LL be a Godwink Link today.

Wishes for Godwinks!
