ROMA’S CHARMING BUTTERFLY GODWINK

ROMA’S CHARMING BUTTERFLY GODWINK

I wanted to reprise a story from our friend ROMA DOWNEY:

“I always see butterflies as a remembrance of my mother and a sign from God.

Several years ago, Mark and I hosted a table at an Operation Smile gala.

As we were sitting down for dinner a young girl, who reminded me of my daughter Reilly, came around selling RAFFLE TICKETS. I dug into my purse and bought two tickets. I wrote my name on them.

Later the MC put her hand into a hat and pulled out a ticket, and said, ‘Well, it’s my friend Roma Downey.’

I jumped up like I’d just won an Oscar. I’d NEVER really WON anything like this before. Mark pulled me back to my chair, laughing, as there was nothing to go up and receive; you would find out later what the prize was.

I also learned later that the second time the MC pulled out a ticket, it again had my name on it. But she set it aside, not wanting it to appear rigged.

My raffle prize was the opportunity to choose a piece of JEWELRY from a well-known designer.

Weeks later we met for tea and she said there was ONE PIECE of jewelry that she’d made 15 years earlier. No one ever bought it. But she had a strong feeling she should bring it. She handed me a beautiful BUTTERFLY RING.

Tears came to my eyes. It reminded me of when my father and I stood at my MOTHER’S GRAVE and a butterfly landed. My father said, ‘Would you look at that! That wee butterfly could be a message from your mother.’

As I held that ring I knew it was indeed a MESSAGE from GOD and my MOTHER. What are the odds that I would buy a raffle ticket, my name would be pulled from hundreds in that hat, not once, but twice? And, that the PRIZE would be a BUTTERFLY RING?

That was a sign of God’s love, reminding us of his constant presence, and that He is taking care of me in moments big and small.”

Roma’s book, filled with stories that you’ll recognize as genuine Godwinks, is a delightful memoir. Through the stories she shares, you’ll find that your own faith is stronger.

May you have a wondrous Godwink-filled day.

That was heartwarming! My mother, RIP, loved butterflies. When I see one, I always think of my Mom.

Thank you for sharing your story! I too see butterflies a message from my Mom who died in June. I was on vacation ( not really in the mood for one) when this butterfly 🦋 kept flying around me & then landed at my feet! I knew God was there with me & He bought a message from my Mom in that butterfly!
